St. Catherine of Siena, Pray for Us!
Tomorrow is the Feast day of St. Catherine of Siena, My Patron Saint. She is one of the only three female Doctors of the Church, a mystic, and her writings prevented a schism and brought the Pope back to the Vatican. St. Catherine completely surrendered herself to God's will and she entered the Dominican Third Order at 18 and spent the next three years in seclusion, prayer, and austerity. She is the co-patron of Italy and an inspiration for the world. throughout her life, her one goal was to please God and attain holiness. St. Catherine has composed over 400 letters and wrote her book, the Dialogue. her writings are enriched with quotes that are gems for Catholic. Here are my top 5 quotes.
"Prayer… unites with God the soul that follows the footprints of Christ Crucified, and thus, by desire and affection, and union of love, makes her another Himself." -St. Catherine of Siena
A Prayer of Saint Catherine of Siena
I see that you have endowed your vicar
by nature
with a fearless heart;
so I humbly, imploringly beg you
to pour the light beyond nature
into the eye of his understanding.
For unless this light,
acquired through pure affection for virtue,
is joined with it,
a heart such as his tends to be proud.
Today again let every selfish love be cut away
from those enemies of yours
and from the vicar
and from us all,
so that we may be able to forgive those enemies
when you bend their hardness.
For them, that they may humble themselves
and obey this lord of ours,
I offer you my life
from this moment
and for whenever you wish me to lay it down
for your glory. [pp.217-18]
Amen.
Ta, Ta for Now!
